Stem and Space exclusive Workshop ‘The Science of Light’
Event Start Date : 06/11/2019 Event End Date 06/11/2019
Brief Report ‘Our knowledge of the universe has got lots from what we learnt to deal with light.’
The Astronomy Club of KHMS in collaboration with Stem and Space Organization conducted an exclusive workshop on ‘The Science of Light’ for the students of Class 7 to 9 in the Astronomy Lab of the school on 6/11/2019.
The objectives of the workshop were:
-
To understand phenomena like reflection, refraction, dispersion, total internal reflection etc
-
To do hands-on activities on various phenomena
-
To make a simple microscope
-
To know the principle of telescope and microscope
-
To understand the difference between telescope and binoculars
The session started with the explanation of various phenomena related to light like reflection, refraction, reflection with different types of mirrors, refraction through lenses, glass slab, prism etc. This was followed by hands-on experiments on the same and recording the observations in log booklet. Students learnt to make a simple microscope using lenses. They also viewed distant objects through a telescope and binoculars and were explained the differences.
After the session, students were given take-away home kits.
